Che Ree Kwon

Unexpected trials we face in life sometimes completely change our life's trajectory. For Toronto-based artist Che Ree Kwon, that trial literally hit her "like a flood." The sudden deluge that swallowed her basement studio damaged her painstakingly painted works and cherished art supplies; paradoxically, however, it became a turning point that guided her artistic world beyond the flat canvas and into the vast realm of three-dimensional art. Through this experience, Che Ree Kwon earned the reputation of a profoundly special and compassionate artist who pieces together the fragments of life to breathe new vitality into them. She was, quite literally, standing at a meaningful turning point.
While Che Ree Kwon is an orthodox artist who graduated from the painting department of a prestigious university in Korea, she also brings experience working as a professional curator in Korea before immigrating to Canada. The 'curator's perspective'—used to plan exhibitions, coordinate artists, and interpret spaces—has now become a powerful asset that adds objective yet structural depth when she approaches her own work as a creator. Her sensibility, which goes beyond merely pouring out her emotions to meticulously calculating how those emotions will interact with the audience within a given space, is an unparalleled characteristic unique to an artist with a curatorial background.
