Couple Donates Over 450 Trees to Wildfire-Affected Newfoundland Community

A couple from Newfoundland's Codroy Valley has donated over 450 trees to the Town of Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adam's Cove, a community severely impacted by wildfires in the previous year. Harrison Bragg and Judy Warren, who are closing their nursery business, transported the trees a considerable distance to aid residents in replanting efforts.

Despite facing a seven-hour delay on the Trans-Canada Highway due to a vehicle accident, the couple persevered, arriving late and initially unable to secure accommodation. They chose to sleep in their truck to ensure the trees reached their intended recipients the following day.

Upon arrival, a community meet-up was organized, and residents eagerly collected the saplings. Bragg described the scene as heartwarming, with many community members expressing gratitude and seeking advice on planting.

The donation is estimated to be worth approximately $9,000. Town officials expressed deep appreciation for the couple's generosity, noting that the gesture extended beyond the physical trees, offering significant emotional support to a community still recovering from the wildfire's destruction.

Looking ahead, Bragg plans to send several thousand more seeds to the community next summer, reinforcing the commitment to helping the area rebuild and 'turn it green again'.
