Russia Launches Widespread Missile and Drone Attacks on Ukrainian Infrastructure

Russia conducted an extensive overnight assault using missiles and drones against Ukrainian ports, industrial facilities, and retail distribution centres. Ukrainian officials stated that air defence systems intercepted a significant portion of the incoming ordnance. The Ukrainian military reported downing several ballistic missiles, with President Zelenskyy having recently noted the delivery of U.S.-made Patriot interceptors, which are crucial for countering such threats.

In Kyiv, air defence activity continued into the day, with debris from intercepted projectiles causing injuries. In the northeastern city of Kharkiv, a lunchtime attack on a shopping centre resulted in one fatality and two injuries. Major Ukrainian retailers, including COMFY and a toy company, reported destruction of their distribution centres. A warehouse belonging to the chocolate firm Roshen was also destroyed near Kyiv.

The Russian defence ministry claimed responsibility for striking steelworks, an oil refinery, logistics centres, and ports in the Odesa region. The attacks disrupted transportation, causing train delays and stranding passengers. Ukraine has recently targeted Russian e-commerce facilities, which it claims support Russia's war effort.

In related developments, Britain has pledged to allow Ukraine access to classified technology for the production of Storm Shadow cruise missiles. Moscow responded by warning it could target British military assets in retaliation for the use of British weapons in Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory.

Meanwhile, six Russian drones reportedly crossed into Moldovan airspace, an act condemned by Moldova's President Maia Sandu, with one drone subsequently found on Moldovan territory.
