Former MP Shaun Chen Seeks City Council Seat in Scarborough North

Shaun Chen, the recently resigned Liberal Member of Parliament for Scarborough North, is now seeking a seat on Toronto city council. Chen confirmed his intention to run for Ward 23's council position in the upcoming municipal election, representing the same community he previously served federally.

Chen stepped down from his federal role on August 15, citing ongoing health challenges stemming from a car accident last year. He stated that his injuries made it difficult to travel to Ottawa as frequently as required by his parliamentary duties. Prime Minister Mark Carney acknowledged Chen's service and wished him well.

Prior to his federal career, Chen was involved in local governance as the chair of the Toronto District School Board. Following his resignation, reports emerged regarding allegations of Chen voting on legislation while on a trip to China. Chen has stated that while he did travel to China, he returned to Canada in time for the House of Commons sitting on March 23.
