Incheon Port's Inner Harbor to Transform into Ocean Park with K-Pop Venue

Incheon Port's Inner Harbor, a key logistics base for the Seoul metropolitan area, is undergoing a significant transformation into a marine cultural city. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has approved the redevelopment plan for the Inner Harbor's 1st and 8th piers. Construction of the infrastructure is slated to begin by the end of this year.

The 1st and 8th piers, comprising approximately 1.98 million square meters, were historically important but faced declining utility and increasing public complaints regarding noise and dust. The area, designated as a security zone, was also seen as hindering urban revitalization.

The redevelopment project will convert a third of the 1st and 8th pier site into a waterside park, covering an area equivalent to 22 soccer fields. The remaining space is designated for a K-pop concert hall with a 20,000-seat capacity, a shopping mall, and mixed-use residential and commercial buildings.

Additionally, a 2-kilometer "Ocean View Running Course" will be established, offering scenic coastal views. To preserve views from historic sites like Freedom Park, the maximum height of the K-pop venue has been reduced from 120 meters to 60 meters.

The total project cost is estimated at 630 billion won, with completion targeted for 2029. The development of the performance hall, shopping mall, and residential complexes will be carried out by private developers, with an aim for all facilities to be operational by 2033. Further redevelopment of other piers within the Inner Harbor is also planned in phases.
