The search for British Columbia's premier roadside attraction has narrowed down its Interior contenders to two distinct local businesses. Voters will decide whether the cluster of family-run fruit stands in Keremeos, a town known as the fruit stand capital of Canada, or the enchanting Enchanted Forest near Revelstoke will advance.

Keremeos offers a taste of local agriculture with numerous stands lining Highway 3, showcasing a variety of fresh produce. These businesses, many operated by the same families for over two decades, are celebrated for their handmade signs and dedication to selling locally grown products. The Similkameen Country Development Association actively supports these stands through a farm trail map, encouraging both local and tourist engagement.

In contrast, the Enchanted Forest, established by the late Doris and Ernest Needham, presents a different kind of allure. This 16-hectare attraction features over 350 'jolly folk art figurines' and whimsical elements like treehouses, continuing a legacy of imaginative roadside entertainment. Its proponents highlight its handmade, B.C.-made nature and unique appeal, noting it as a destination that can only be found within the province.

Both finalists represent a significant part of British Columbia's unique roadside culture, drawing visitors with their distinct charm and offerings. Experts suggest that the adaptability and local character of such attractions contribute to their enduring appeal, providing memorable stops for travellers and supporting regional economies.

The winner of this Interior showdown will move on to the semifinals, with voting open until Wednesday evening. The overall champion will be crowned before Labour Day as part of a summer tradition to identify the province's most beloved roadside gems.
